It’s believed that much of Proverbs was composed by King Solomon—an Israelite king blessed by God with “a wise and understanding heart.” [1 Kings 3:12]
When The Lord visited Solomon one night in a dream and asked him what he wanted, the King did not request riches, vengeance or long life, nor did he seek honour.
Humbling himself, Solomon replied, “I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil.” [1 Kings 3:7-9]
Pleased by Solomon’s response, The Lord granted both riches and honour—two things he did not ask for, along with long life and of course, his ask—wisdom. [1 Kings 3:113-14]
Compiled of wisdom, advice, instruction and a multitude of wise sayings, although there remains some debate regarding how much of Proverbs was actually written by the Great King Solomon, without a doubt, the Book of Proverbs is filled with divine-inspired wisdom.
As Christian business owners and entrepreneurs, it’s important that we seek The Lord’s wisdom in all our endeavours. Whether starting a new business, launching a new service or partnering with a new client, in all that we do, it’s imperative that we seek Him first. [Matthew 6:33]
