Our trip to Kuala Lumpur last September was all about the food! We practically ate our way through the city, so here’s a rundown of everything we enjoyed (and some things we didn’t).
After 24 hours of door-to-door travel, we were exhausted. There was no way we were venturing out for food, so we ordered in. Sadly, the meal was nearly as bad as the drainage smell in our Airbnb. Let’s just say… it wasn’t the best start.
The next day, we stayed in for lunch since Yomi was working. We ordered ramen-style noodles (without broth) topped with crispy chicken. It didn’t look too impressive, but the seasoning was decent, and it hit the spot.
As a fruit lover, I couldn’t resist ordering some local fruits via Grab. We ordered mangoes (Yomi’s favourite) and tried two fruits that were completely new to us: mangosteen and longan. If you want to see me coax Yomi into trying them, you can check that out on Instagram!
Okay, please don’t judge us… but we tried McDonald’s. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy and seasoned—a definite win! Who knew fast food abroad could be this good?
This burger was so incredible that we ordered it THREE times. A cheeseburger with fries and an Oreo milkshake? Excessive carbs, but absolutely worth it.
Not technically a meal, but our impromptu coffee date at Bacha Coffee was too good not to mention. We indulged in pistachio croissants alongside delicious coffee. I tried their ‘Darling Havana’ blend—a mix of African and South American beans with hints of bergamot, cane sugar, and spice. Yomi went for a classic iced coffee. Perfection.
This meal alone might justify another trip to KL! At Top Spice, we shared pineapple fried rice, lamb, beef, and gyozas. I also treated myself to sesame balls—a long-standing craving finally satisfied after over a decade. Pure joy.
Ren at Suria KLCC Mall
After exploring the Petronas Twin Towers, we dined at Ren in Suria KLCC Mall. Yomi had a noodle dish with lamb, while I opted for sweet & sour chicken with egg-fried rice. We also shared a bowl of broccoli to balance things out. A solid meal to refuel after sightseeing.
Our last night at Else Hotel ended with what might have been the best meal of our stay—beef tacos that were absolutely out of this world. Easily one of the most memorable bites of the trip, right alongside those incredible burgers.
On the morning of checkout, Yomi casually mentioned that our hotel stay included breakfast… 30 minutes before breakfast ended! Naturally, I rushed down to enjoy fresh fruits, watermelon juice, over-easy eggs, chicken sausage, salad, and toast. It turned out to be the perfect meal to round off our Kuala Lumpur adventure.
Kuala Lumpur was a whirlwind of flavours, surprises, and some memorable mishaps. From standout burgers to irresistible tacos and hidden coffee gems, our trip proved that sometimes the best way to experience a city is one bite at a time. If you’re heading to KL, bring your appetite—you won’t regret it!
